Responsible animal management dictates that aquariums and zoos evaluate their suppliers for a number of factors related to animal care, sustainability, legal and ethical considerations.
This site is designed to facilitate that process making it easier for suppliers to communicate this critical information to all of their consumers.
Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA) member institutions are required to evaluate any facilities that they acquire animals from for a number of factors related to animal care, sustainability, legal and ethical considerations. Since many of the aquatic AZA facilities utilize the same non-AZA facilities to acquire animals, this site will allow the results of the evaluation process to be shared among AZA institutions.
This site compiles information related to a supplier's facility and allows the supplier to share it with consumers (aquariums and zoos) for use when they are making decisions regarding choices in animal suppliers. This will reduce the supplier's efforts when they work with multiple facilities each year. Data on this site is private and only made available to a consumer with a supplier's approval.
This process was developed by a group of public aquarists, it is not in any way an official AZA inspection or approval process. This site is not a rating site, the data provided by suppliers will be review for accuracy and confirmed. Verification is not a recommendation, consumers will still be responsible for drawing their own conclusions based on the data provided.
Sustainability is vitally important to AZA member institutions. This site provides suppliers an opportunity to demonstrate that their facility is well-aligned with the goal of increased sustainability.
